For One of the Best Family Ski Holidays Available, Choose Les Gets

With the longest day of the year behind us, it won't be long before the ski season is in full swing in Les Gets. It's when it's buried deep in the snow that its real beauty is uncovered. The snow-capped mountains shine in the sunlight and their views will take your breath away. For a charming family ski holiday with stunning scenery, Les Gets is the perfect location.

The Ideal Family Skiing Holiday

Family skiing holidays for beginners don't get much better than Les Gets. The mountain offers skiers of all levels the chance to take to the slopes and carve out their own trail. For those new to skiing there are a handful of green runs to get practising on. Once they've refined their snowplough technique, they can hit up the wide range of blue runs on the mountain. For the intermediate skiers there are some beautiful red runs. While for the expert skiers in the family, there are a small selection of black runs. Les Gets ski schools can introduce first timers to the world of skiing. The lessons run in the mornings and have British instructors available. For a family day out on the slopes, you could ski to one of the viewing platforms that overlooks the mountain range. The automated camera shot spots there can help you collect some memories of the whole family. Venturing out to the Portes Du Soleil area gives you a huge range of ski runs to choose from. Why not ski over into Switzerland for lunch while you're there?

Ski Rental in Les Gets

For ski hire in Les Gets, there are a handful of hire places located in the village. Some of the venues make ski rental easy with online bookings of gear available. There are ski shops to buy your own gear from for you and the kids, before setting out on your skiing adventure.

Les Gets ski lifts open on Saturday 19th December 2020. If there is enough snowfall before then, the lifts can sometimes open a week earlier. The ski lifts close on 11th April 2021, but some lifts can close sooner than others. This is dependent on the amount of snow left on the mountain. For those who are willing to drag themselves out of bed early, the first lift of the day at Les Gets is at 9:00. Depending on the time of year, you can catch the last lift up the mountain between 16:10 and 17:30.

Les Gets Village

The little village of Les Gets sits like an oasis in a sea of snow on the mountainside. In the evening, the yellow light from the wooden cabin's windows glows gold on the snow. The warming site tempts you inside to taste the treasure of the local mountain cuisine. Raclette and Fondue are two melted cheese dishes that are staples of the region and are hard to resist. More restaurants along the ski trails can offer a simple lunch to help give you fuel for the ski runs left in your day.

The village has all the facilities to suit your needs, from local grocery and clothes stores to a medical centre and daycare. The supermarkets are perfect to pick up some meals from our self-catering chalet in Les Gets. Each of the artisan shops in the village offers you a chance to take some of that Savoyard charm home with you. You can pick up some delicious souvenirs of meat, honey and cheese as gifts from shops like Le Traineau. Entertainment from bowling to ice skating is available and you can explore some of the village's unique history at the mechanical music museum.
